Fade in.
We walk in to an office, an office that seems to be accompanied by Charlie Velez, and his wife, Annette and his son, Jonathan. Charlie is sitting at his desk, writing something down as Annette is sitting on the couch, watching young Jonathan walk around the living room, full of life. Little Jonathan continues to run around in circles, as Charlie lifts his head up to watch him. Charlie's head continues to rotate around, not taking his eyes off of his son.
"He's a little beast, isn't he?"
"He does this all day."
"Seriously? I mean, does he ever stop?"
"I keep trying. I put on Pooh, he stops looks at it smiles, and just starts going around again."
"Backyardagins?"
"Same thing."
"Wonder Pets?"
"Still the same thing."
Charlie thinks to himself, and rolls back on his chair. He looks down and opens his bottom drawer, and reaches in. He keeps his eye on Jonathan, who's still running around in a circle. Charlie pulls his hand out of the drawer and flicks his wrist, sending a ball over the table bouncing off Jonathan's head! Annette gasps in fear, as Jonathan falls to his butt. He looks around and the ball lands right in front of him, and he begins to laugh with excitement. He takes the ball and starts bouncing it off Charlie's desk. Charlie grins as Annette gives a sigh of relief. Charlie looks at his watch and shoots up.
"I gotta go."
He walks over and around his desk and kisses Jonathan on the forehead and then walks up to his wife and gives her a kiss.
"Don't stay out late."
"I'll be home for dinner."
Charlie walks over and grabs his coat and begins to put it on.
"Be careful, drive safe."
"Not driving, I'm walking."
"Well then walk safely."
Charlie looks at her and grins. She looks at him back and winks. Charlie puts on his Cubs hat, and begins walking out the door.
"Bye guys."
Jonathan waves his hand as Charlie walks out of his apartment. He closes the door behind him and walks down the hall and walks down the steps. The camera follows him as he begins walking down three flights of steps and finally outside of the Apartment complex. Charlie waves his hand and tells the camera man to walk in front of him, and both begin walking down the block.
"Chicago, the Windy City. The city that can't be imitated no matter how others try. Chicago, Charlie Velez town. You see Kris Quake, I did see some of the things you said. I mean, the best I could digest. Were you really trying to compare me to people like Ali and Joe Namath? I mean, I'm honored. I'm not mad that you compared me to them, I mean, think about who you're talking about, and what exactly you said. Ali is suffering from a common disease, so now he's no longer a legend? How does suffering a life threatening disease discredit his status as a legend? You're a legend because of what you've done in your whole career, not what you are now. Just because Ali suffers from Parkinson's disease, he is no longer the greatest boxer of all time? You're telling me if Michael Jordan ended up having cancer, his legacy would be tarnished, being a legend will mean nothing because he's suffering from a disease? Are you retarded, or were you just dropped on your head too much. You're acting like being a legend has become a bad thing. Let me ask you something, since we're nitpicking on people, what do you think of the hero Aaron Boone? Hits one glamorous homerun…is now a bench player for the Washington Nationals. Would you rather be an Aaron Boone Quake, or would you rather be a Muhammad Ali? My thoughts exactly."
Charlie Velez walks over to a hotdog stand and just takes a hotdog and begins to walk off. The hotdog guy doesn't say a thing and Charlie just walks right on by.
"You see that right there Quake? That's what legends could do. I'm Charlie Velez, the Golden Boy of Chicago. Everywhere I go, people stop and look at me. How many people have you noticed stop and stare at me while walking down the street Quake? Twelve, twenty? Heroes are lucky if they get noticed at a sports bar. I have an aura about me Quake, an aura that only legends have."
Charlie finishes the hotdog rather quickly and throws it towards a garbage can. He misses, but somebody is there to pick it up and throw it out for him.
"We can have this argument all day Quake, back and forth, you can come and retort to me about how it's somewhat not as glorious as being a legend anymore, but it's not about that. You see, this is about Vortex Wrestling. The new wrestling federation that we were both luckily able to sign with. We have a match this Monday, and you don't think I have it anymore. You think I'm done. Please. Look at me Quake, I'm in the best physical shape of my life! I look better than people in their so called "prime"…something I haven't even gotten in yet. I'm only twenty four years old, and you've already said it, I have everything. I haven't even gotten into my primes year, hell, they might just be beginning. What have I done for you lately? I've just become the final Tag Team Champion. The question is, what have YOU done lately? You lost to a guy who would followed around a nut job for three years of his career. I was once again etched in history, you're just a bench mark."
Charlie Velez stops, and the camera pans back, getting a greater view of the city. Charlie extends his arms.
"I did refer to myself as the future. The future is now. My time…is now. Kris Quake, you're going to be lucky if you get to see what I have up my sleeves."
